About Summer Friends

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Summer 2020!

Friends Seminary, founded in 1786, is the oldest continuous co-educational independent school in New York City. Bordering Stuyvesant park, Friends educates students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Quaker values and academic rigor combine to create an environment that nurtures our students and teaches them to be global citizens.

From June 15th – July 31st  the Summer Friends Day Camps adheres to the School’s values with a touch of summertime whimsy for children ages 2 - 14. This summer, in addition to our traditional day camps, we are excited to offer specialty programs for children ages 4- 14. For inquisitive young scientists, we welcome the return of hands-on exploration with Science Explorers and Handwork Studio.  Back by popular demand, our acclaimed Pre-school Programs, Too Cute, Wee are Three, Fours and Fun, and Fives and Fun. For children entering 1st grade we are excited to introduce Ready, Set, Sixes, our new imaginative program specifically designed for six-year-olds and Seven-Up for the inquisitive 2nd grader.

Depending on age, days will include individualized swimming instruction with Imagine Swim, creative arts workshops, Karma Kids Yoga, CATS tennis, Live Animals with the Nature Company, Robotics with Idea Studio, music and creative movement, exciting group games and sports, and dynamic and enriching field trips. To round it out, Summer Friends is proud to offer optimal camper-to-counselor ratios. Stay tuned to our website for some additional programs that we will offer in June. Attend for the whole summer or come for a week, but don’t miss out. We’re getting the bubbles ready for you!

Sincerely,
Robin Hoffmann

Why Summer Friends?

Summer Friends is where you can discover your best self.

The essence of Summer Friends can be found in the Quaker values of simplicity, peacemaking, integrity, community, equity, and service.

These values are woven into the fabric of every program, creating an environment where campers are encouraged to be themselves, say yes to challenges, and achieve more than they thought possible.

Summer Friends registration is on a week-to-week basis.

This means you can choose how long you want to attend - whether it be a week or the whole summer so you don't have to miss out!

Summer Friends offers more than a traditional day camp.

We also offer a variety of specialty programs for children ages 4- 14. There's something for everyone! Stay tuned as we announce additional programs in June.

Summer Friends has an optimal camper-to-counselor ratio.

Safety is always our very first priority. We look for the very best counselors to take care of our campers, but we know that even the best counselors can get overwhelmed if they’re looking after too many kids at once. This is why we work hard to keep our Camper-to-Staff ratios low!

SPEND YOUR SUMMER WITH FRIENDS!

My children have been attending Friends Camp for the past three years.  My daughter, Sophie. started when she was three and my son, Miles, when he was two.  They are now four and six. It is the highlight of their summer. They are exposed to so many incredible activities both within the city and outside.  Whether it's attending a field trip at the natural history museum, legoland or the zoo or jamming with song man Lou, stretching their muscles at yoga or just socializing with new friends, the Friends camp exposes my children to so much in a very safe and fun environment.  There is no other camp in NYC that offers so many diverse activities that are not only exciting for the children but educational too.
